Le Quai des Arts
Description
The performing arts architecture of this cultural hangar is fully clad in iridescent grey metal steel siding and deliberately stripped of ornamentation. It is embedded within an industrial peri-urban context defined by former logistics and light manufacturing infrastructure. The building asserts a restrained, industrial expression that reinforces its integration within the existing post-industrial urban fabric.
The north façade, designed by the cultural architect, is oriented toward the city. It is fully glazed and sheltered by an extended canopy that extends the building’s profile and reinforces its identity as a contemporary performance venue. The main entrance hall is expressed as a full-height volume, revealing the spatial narrative of the building and its internal program. Circulation is configured through a system of suspended walkways, which actively stage visitors’ movement and extend the performative experience into transitional and intermission spaces.
The performing arts architecture is sequenced through a strictly functional layout structured around a central foyer, serving as the primary spatial and social anchor. Two main performance spaces: a principal auditorium and a secondary multipurpose hall, which can be subdivided into two independent volumes. Both halls, designed by the civic architect, are optimized for acoustic adaptability and flexible operational configurations.
The main auditorium provides a 9-metre clear height from stage floor to fly tower grid, allowing the hosting of national and international productions without technical limitations. The spatial configuration of the performing arts architecture prioritizes versatility, acoustic performance and the seamless integration of various stage technologies.
