A graduate of ENSA-Marseille, Patrick Mauger completed a postgraduate degree in multimedia communication at Sciences’com-Audencia Nantes and studied architectural theory at Paris Villemin. A recipient of a grant from the Académie française (Jean Walter-Zellidja Foundation), he conducted research on commercial urban planning in the United States. Upon his return, he published a book on shopping centers with Éditions du Moniteur.

He worked for over 10 years at the firms Viguier-Jodry and Jean-Michel Wilmotte, where he gained expertise in large-scale projects (Musée du Louvre, Musée des Beaux-Arts de Lyon) and in heritage, cultural, and research restructuring (extension of the Collège de France with Bernard Huet).

In 1999, he founded Architecture Patrick Mauger.
His first project, the Le Tourp cultural center in Normandy, was nominated for the Première Œuvre award in 2002. That same year, the LVMH group commissioned him to design the Phillips Auctioneers auction house in New York.

His work focuses on the new uses of existing buildings, their reuse, and their extensions, in order to adapt them to changing needs and life in motion.

He is developing a unique method inspired by neuro-architecture, in collaboration with Jacques Glowinski, a neurobiologist and Honorary Administrator of the Collège de France. Together, they draw a parallel between the simplified functioning of the brain in three networks—executive, regulatory, and energetic—and the fundamental dimensions of architecture: its uses, emotions, and techniques. They apply this method to research buildings—the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts et Métiers, the University of Pau research center, and the Learning Planet Institute in Paris—and to education, such as the new Institut Français de la Mode campus.

Since 2010, Patrick Mauger has served as a State Consultant Architect for the Ministry of Culture. He was inducted into the Académie d’Architecture in 2022 and is a member of the Architecture et Maîtrise d’Ouvrage (AMO) and the Association Française pour le Développement Urbain (AFDU) associations.

Patrick Mauger Architecture team at the premises of the new campus of the French Institute of Fashion

Founded in 1999, Architecture Patrick Mauger designs and executes projects for both private and public clients. One of the agency’s specialties is to work, since its inception, on existing buildings, whether for rehabilitation or extension, in heritage environments and across all urban configurations. The agency possesses extensive knowledge of all stakeholders involved in heritage preservation: Architectes des Bâtiments de France, state services, the Ministry of Culture, and various associations.

To guarantee the objectives set by the Project Owners, the agency collaborates with recognized economists and assembles a tailor-made team for each project, including adapted engineering firms that meet the necessary competencies.

Experienced in various types of project setups, projects are carried out in partnership with major construction companies. These partnerships are particularly evident in design-build contracts or global performance markets.

Projects are characterized by high quality of use, resulting from a proven approach and a collaborative process with initiators, decision-makers, and users. The agency invents spaces that meet new needs and are capable of adaptation. The imagined plasticity allows the building to reinvent itself, to evolve naturally over time. A focus on space, light, and material shapes a distinct personality for each creation.

Environmental quality, recycling, and reuse have been at the heart of the design process for over ten years. Research work has led to the perfection of a natural ventilation system through the installation of thermal chimneys. The agency qualifies and labels its achievements.
