Baignade en Seine, site de Bercy

As a legacy of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, a series of urban swimming sites on the Seine river, which winds through Paris, offers open‑air bathing accessible to all. Designed by a waterfront architect for experienced swimmers, the Bercy site occupies a distinctive urban landscape requiring a sensitive riverbank intervention seamlessly integrated with the city’s scale and public realm. As a public and seasonal facility, the supervised bathing area remains free to all and is composed of reversible, demountable structures.

Inscrites au patrimoine mondial de l’Unesco et bordées de nombreux bâtiments historiques, les berges de Seine sont un défi en termes d’aménagement urbain. Au-delà d’une cohérence avec l’architecture environnante, le projet doit également prendre en compte deux échelles imbriquées : celle du site qui donne à voir la Seine, le ciel, la ville et ses architectures emblématiques ; celle du piéton, à qui est destiné cet aménagement qui prend place dans un ancien site industriel, difficile d’accès. En s’appuyant et réaffirmant les lignes de forces horizontales des berges de Seine, le projet respecte les prescriptions de l’APUR dans le cadre du Plan Baignade et s’inscrit en continuité des quais par l’emploi d’un même vocabulaire de matériau.

The waterfront architect conceived a minimalist solarium as a horizontal timber deck opening onto the landscape. Its temporary, demountable structure evokes an act of urban Land Art — both infrastructural and poetic — offering a generous platform for rest, movement and contemplation over the river panorama.

Echoing the architectural language of the Simone de Beauvoir footbridge, the installations combine grey‑painted steel modules, pre‑weathered timber decking, and metal screens with mesh infill. The in‑water structures extend the solarium’s restrained aesthetic through a modular steel framework, as the waterfront architect ensures design continuity and a lightweight, reversible system rooted in the Seine’s material and spatial identity.
